The long-delayed execution of the three Bali bombers ends one of the strangest sagas in Indonesia's legal history. It is not unusual that Mukhlas, Amrozi and Imam Samudra were put to death five years after their sentencing; many Indonesians on death row have waited far longer.
Also let's not forget how many Indonesians were also victims of this attack. How must those families be feeling now?
Sad story. The conclusion could not be that this is profitable to the terrorists and their ideology. The problem here is that they are trying to inverse the situation and to be the victims of the system. And that is exactly the message they give to others potentials terrorists.
Well, that is just how it is. Terrorists ARE (the voice of the) victims of the system. The only way to get eradicate terrorism is by taking care of the system, not by putting a ban on the press. That would be completely idiotic!
This is Indonesia not Palestine, Thyme. I am not proposing a ban on the press but why did this guys get so much access to the media to spout their messages of hate when they were meant to be in prison? Do murderers and rapists have this privilege? What of the Indonesian victims who have to put up with their family's killers being treated as celebrities by the media in their own country. I know your position is very PC but you might want to do a bit more research into this particular case or ask any of the Indonesian posters on vox. Also for your information, the Australian government is providing practical aid to Islamic schools in Indonesia in an effort to promote less of an us versus them mentality.
I agree. Even worse for the Indonesian victims and others ashamed of what their country men had committed in the name of their country's majority religion.
C'est vrai, Sergio. :( Personally I don't agree with the death penalty in this case as it just helps make these guys look like heroes. A better punishment would be for everyone to ignore them.
Life in prison would have given laughing boy something to think about. It also shows them up to be no better than petty crims rather than some sort of wacky hero.
I must say I don't think much of asking folk to stay away from Bali either. It suggests the terrorists have more support than they actually do. Fair enough to give a warning but I have seen it mentioned every night for the last week. It also gives some of the less intelligent among us Aussies a fortress mentality. You only have to look at America to see what happens when mass paranoia sets in.

Ask a bunch of Aussies how many died and they will probably say 88. Even the Poms didn't make the count let alone the locals.
And if it happens again Australia should ask for a Press ban. It was a damned disgrace the coverage they got leading up to this.
