Would swap your kidney for ballet lessons and a home deposit?

What an idiot! Lucky he is not trying to sell his brain as this certainly wouldn't be worth $50,000.

The whole idea is just ridiculous. There is a lot more we could be doing in Australia to promote organ donation rather than resorting to this nonsense. For example, how about making organ donation registration opt out rather than opt out. I also wouldn't mind betting that if they offered everyone a $100 shopping voucher to register themselves as an organ donor, there would be loads of takers. I think for most people it is just apathy that stops them from registering rather than any strongly held objections. A $100 incentive might be just enough to help overcome that apathy. Certainly cheaper than paying $50,000 for a single kidney!

Great idea! I will be a donor - my overwhelming thought that if one of my children need a kidney I would want someone to donate to them, so I should donate to someone else if needed.

This dude is a bloody idiot!

I understand that he is "desperate" but this is just taking the issue to an extreme.

Not sure how the compatibility thing works but wouldn't you prefer to save your kidney in case someone in your family needs it? Also would you really want to pay $50,000 for a needed kidney? Saw a tv program on this a while back about poor Indian kidney donors - not only did they suffer health effects as a result of only having one kidney but within 6m they had nothing to show for the money they had received, ie, still trapped in the same cycle of poverty. The kidneys mostly went to people in wealthy first world countries such as the US or Canada.
