I think it has a real happy, 80s feel to it. The bit in the wardrobe reminds me of the Cure and the clacky drumming is a bit Adam and the Ants. Love it!
because she was laughing so hard. Can any of the Indian voxers tell me what it is really about? It's a very catchy tune!
My son wanted to search for this song on Youtube after hearing it on Ben 10. He watched the Ben 10 one first and then I showed him this one which blew him away!
What new CD are you looking forward to being released?
This one is defintely worth a plug in the lead up to Christmas.
Proceeds from sales go towards the Buttery which is an drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre in Northern NSW.
More details here. I used to have a tape of hers that I played a lot. I also have this song, Mayibuye, on a compilation CD. What an amazing voice. I had no idea she was this old. :(
The Australian Recording Industry Awards awards are a bit of a joke (as illustrated by that 17 year winning so many awards) but was pleased to see Indigenous artist, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu (formerly of Yothu Yindi), pick up two awards last night. My husband gave me his CD, Gurrumul, for my birthday a few weeks ago and it is absolutely gorgeous. Most of the songs are in his native Yolgnu language but with an English translation in the CD notes. You almost don't need the translation as the emotion in the songs comes across so clearly. He has the most beautiful voice and guitar playing. I highly recommend this CD to anyone.
I was watching Australian Idol the other night (yes, we started watching it because the kids like it and now we are hooked!) and was quite annoyed to hear Kyle (the obnoxious judge - every country has at least one of these, I think) commenting to one of the singers that he should have been singing the song with an American accent like the original. Isn't it bad enough that so many of the singers on that show simply imitate the original renditions of the song they have chosen without having to pretend not to be Australian into the bargain? One of my pet hates is Australian singers who assume an American (or British) accent when they sing. It is one thing I love about Holly Throsby, ie, not only does she sing beautifully but she sings with an Australian accent. This should not be unusual but unfortunately it is - enough for it to be mentioned in reviews of her concerts and CDs. Missy Higgins is another one. It doesn't seem to have harmed either of their popularity.
I was out shopping for school clothes with my 5yo son yesterday. This song came on the tv screen in the store and my son yelled out "Look mum! It's Electrical Feel!". How cool is he? When he was little, he also latched onto the Go Betweens' "Hammer the hammer" as "his song" (I think because he also liked to hammer things). A little better than some of his other retro favourites which include the following:
My husband and I have only recently started listening to modern music again in the last 5 years since the launch of the fabulous Sydney community radio station FBI. Before that we could only envy Melbournians their 3RRR.
This is an interview with a song at the end. Fast forward to about 3/4 the way through to get to the song which is lovely.
