Actually, my biggest noise gripe at the moment (apart from the hordes of squawking cockatoos outside my house) is whistle-happy Cityrail employees. Getting on the train at Town Hall station (probably the busiest city station) always takes a few minutes because first all the passengers already on the train need to get off and then there are usually at least a dozen people waiting to get on. Unless the entering passengers trample all over those trying to get off (which they sometimes do!), it is pretty impossible to get everyone off and on in less than a minute. This doesn't, however, stop the Cityrail employees blasting everyone with their whistles as they try to get onto the train. I was actually taken aback one day last week but a bloke in a Cityrail uniform who was standing calmly by and not blowing on his whistle. Then I heard the guard who is usually on this platform (Platform 3 in case anyone from Cityrail is reading this!) ask him "Don't you like to use the whistle? I always find it very effective". I said to her "Yes, very effective for deafening people" (but I am not sure that she heard me as she has probably deafened herself). Since then I have been trying to stand well away from where she normally stands as she is obviously pathologically whistle-happy. I think she has been trying to spread the joy around though as she too has been moving to different parts of the platform. Someone is going to push her off one day, I am sure.
Which TV chef would you want to have prepare a meal for you?
I probably wouldn't eat his cooking but at least I would get a laugh. Todd is actually the handyman who doubles as the 'gourmet chef' on the now defunct, SBS TV show 'Life Support'. Brendan Cowell who plays Todd has since gone onto bigger and better things such as the lead role in the fantastic Australian film Noise and is currently playing Hamlet in Bell Shakespeare's production (which I unfortunately missed when it was on in Sydney).
Here is Todd, I mean Brendan, talking about his botched audition for Noise:
He is such a talented guy. He can come and cook for me any day!
