My son took this when he was lounging around in my bed playing with my phone while I was trying to get him to get up and get ready for school so I could go to work. I kind of like it as it shows the morning chaos from quite a different perspective.
I also don't usually show the light fittings in my photos. They are really pretty wild in this house we are renting (that is one of the more conservative ones).
Oh and if anyone has been wondering where I have been lately, the office net nanny has started blocking access to Vox. Apologies for not commenting on anyone's posts lately. I don't think I am ever going to be able to catch up now.
One outbound (my daughter) and one inbound (a friend of my son's). Both kids have been hugely excited about their respective adventures. My daughter has been itching to pack all week. She dragged out one of our wheeled suitcases last night and managed to fill it with things to take on this overnight sleepover which is for her friend's 10th birthday. It looked like she was going away for a month. When she first got the invitiaton for the sleepover she said she was going to save up all her farts for that night (as apparently that is what one of her friends did when we had the sleepover here last month) but was then cursing herself this morning because she had forgotten to do this. Other hi-jinks planned for tonight include eating KFC for dinner (ooh ah!) and watching The Vicar of Dibley on tv. Life is very strange when you are 10 years old.
My son's plan for his sleepover includes making and eating pizzas and also watching something on tv. I hope his guest manages to get to sleep okay as she has her younger brother's Big Fat Greek Christening to go to tomorrow and I would feel awful if she was tired and cranky for that. Her mother has said she is one of those kids who just conks out (like my son is) so I will be surprised if the two of them make it to 8:30pm before falling asleep.
I will try and report back tomorrow on how it all went.
My son turned six yesterday. The four days between his sister's and his birthday are always torture for him. I really think it would have been better if he could have been the one with the earlier birthday (which would have been the case if he hadn't been born more than 10 days after his due date).
Here he is perusing the junk mail catalogues for gift ideas for himself (not sure what he thought he was going to get from the supermarket!):
Here he is making his birthday muffins to take in and share with his class at school (do you like my "new" old beaters I got from the Salvation Army store that very day? A bit of a step up from the hand beaters we had been using previously):
The finished product (the icing was orange in honour of Harmony Day):
He woke up extra early on his birthday and was very excited to receive this toy dragon who looks just like Rascal the Dragon from his favourite books:
He also loved his new 36 pack of textas (markers) and other art supplies and immediately set to work drawing me (the one on the left) and Granny (the one on the right). He asked whether he should draw some wrinkles on Granny and I said "Maybe not!" (just in case you are reading, Mum).
It was then time to go and wake up big sister so he could get his present from her.
Then it was time for school. The cakes were a big hit with his class who also sang "Happy Birthday" to him before tucking in.
We didn't have a proper cake with which to sing "Happy birthday" that night so made do with some scones from the bakery near home.
And here he is blowing out the candles at the end of a very happy birthday.
The End
When I was One,
I had just begun.
When I was Two,
I was nearly new.
When I was Three,
I was hardly Me.
When I was Four,
I was not much more.
When I was Five,
I was just alive.
But now I am Six, I'm as clever as clever.
So I think I'll be Six now, for ever and ever.

Two big milestones for us tomorrow:
- My son is starting recorder lessons.
- I am taking my daughter to 'open night' at the local high school.
Eek!
This photo is of my daughter back when she was learning the recorder.
I can't believe that my baby son is at recorder playing age or that my little recorder playing girl is starting to think about high school!
