Vox Hunt: Puppy Power!

Show us a puppy.

This is the puppy my mum bought for me when I was 9yo:

He was the perfect kids' dog, ie, was happy to put up with all kinds of indignities like being dressed up in clothes, pushed around in a dolls stroller, having eyebrows drawn on etc etc. You can't see in the picture but he was actually quite peculiar looking with really long spindly legs. he had been sold to us as a "poodle cross" but we think he was probably part whippet. He could also run and run and run so became my dad's constant jogging companion. Everyone in the neighbourhood knew and loved him.

He was still a relatively young lad in this picture, ie, actually lived to the ripe old age of 18.

Share a song you listened to in 6th grade.

KISS I WAS MADE FOR LOVING YOU

This was the song of 1980 as far as I am concerned. Abba fever was over and it was all Kiss, Kiss, Kiss at my primary school. My brother in particular was completely mad about them. This wasn't just confined to our school either. This song made such an impression on my friend, who attended the nearby Catholic school at the same time, that she and her husband had this as their special song at their wedding.

Vox Hunt: In the Neighborhood

This is not my photo but from the wonderful Sydney Daily Photo blog and just happens to be my corner shop too!

From Sally's blog:

This shop is jam-packed with everyday necessities, and those things you decide you need for dinner at 7pm on Sunday night. Open long hours, this is a typical example of hard-workign migrant enterprise. When i moved into my street in 1984, the owner was a postwar Greek immigrant. He sold it to the present Lebanese-born proprietor. Several of his 13 sons and daughters work there from time to time (including two you can see here). The family works hard, and the children are making the classic immigrant journey into the professions as they complete high school and move on to university to study architecture, pharmacy, accountancy and other professions.

The young men in the picture are the delightful El Zein boys. My kids love going to this shop as Mr El Zein senior always very generous with the lollies (candy). I am planning to stop off there tonight to pick up a 5kg bag of rice and some bananas. The quality of the produce in this shop and the prices both very good despite it only being a small corner store.

Vox Hunt: What I'm Eating...

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack time... Show us one of your meals today.

This is not my actual lunch but close to what I had, ie, Chicken Pad Thai with the guys from my office. They all drank wine but I was feeling a bit fluey so stuck to lime and soda water. I also don't like drinking alcohol at lunchtime as it makes me even sleepier in the afternoon.
